Show off your patriotic pride at the Fourth of July parade this year. If your team or family participates in your neighborhood parade, create matching T-shirts to wear! Use your imagination to design a special shirt to celebrate our national holiday.

What you'll need:

• Newspaper, cardboard, or recycled catalogs
• Cotton T-shirt
• Fabric paint
• Shallow container to pour paint into (example: pie tin)
• Knife (Adult supervision required.)
• Star fruit or star stamps made of sponges or other materials (or make a sponge stamp from a potato)
• Bounty® paper towels

Directions:

1. Many fabric paint manufacturers recommend washing the T-shirt first. Check the directions for the fabric paint you’re using.
2. When you’re ready to paint, insert several sheets of newspaper, cardboard, or recycled catalogs inside the shirt to prevent bleed-through.
3. Pour fabric paint into your shallow container. Use a separate container for each color.
4. Use the knife to slice the star fruit in half. Dry each half with the paper towel.
5. Dip the star fruit in the paint and use it to press larger stars onto the shirt. To make stars in a variety of sizes, use smaller star stamps or sponges, or carve a star shape from a potato to use as a stamp.
6. Use squeezable fabric paint to create additional designs on the shirt if you like, or to write your name or “USA” on the shirt.
7. Allow the design to dry, and then follow the fabric paint directions for washing the shirt.
